JOHOR BAHARU, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- Proton Sunday launched its limited edition Satria, known as Satria Race Rally Research (R3) or Satria R3, mainly for motorsport enthusiasts in the country.

Proton Holdings Berhad Motorsports Division Special Projects head, Adian Yein Khalid, said only 150 units of the 3-door, 1.8-litre engined Satria R3 would be sold with a price tag of RM70,000.

"The limited edition Satria R3 is specially produced to cater for the needs of motorsport fans in the country," he told reporters at launching ceremony held at the Pasir Gudang Circuit here Sunday in conjunction with the Proton Carnival Track.

The Tengku Mahkota Johor who launched the car also took the Satria R3 for a spin at the Pasir Gudang Circuit.

Adian said: "The Satria R3 is built out of pure driving passion by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. It was designed from the outset to be an accessible driver's car. In short it's a road legal track car."

The car's style and non-conformity ensure that it stands out and redefines the limits. From every angle, it portrays speed, motion energy, and audacity, he added.

The car comes in two colours - white and black - complete with Recaro SR4 bucket seats.

A combination of new three-spoke sports steering from Italian manufacturer, MOMO, carbon fibre gear knob, blood-red seat belts and the dark titanium and matching red inside theme presents enthusiasts with a very strong impression of the Satria R3's performance intent.

The Satria R3 engine is tuned to produce a maximum power of 140bhp and a massive 148Nm of torque. It is fitted with a five-speed manual transmission.

The car has posted a quick lap time of 2 minutes 55 seconds around the Sepang International Circuit, and 1 minute 59 second around Pasir Gudang's Johor Circuit.

Adian said: "Since this is a limited edition, those interested to make bookings can do so from Oct 17 at only three Proton Edar Berhad outlets - Johor Baharu (South), Mutiara Damansara (Central) and Juru (North)."

Sebenarnye takde air bag pun takpe..ko rang kene paham konsep yang dia buat... dia org tak letak air beg sebab krete macam wira iswara direke bukan untuk bawak laju...lagi pun body krete dia org buat lembut supaye mase acsident boleh melambatkan mase pelanggaran dan hasilnye pemandu tu tak kene hentakan yang sirius..sebab tu kreter wira, iswara dikatekan sbg kreter yang paling bagus untuk org yg berpendapatan rendah sebab harge die pun murah... lain la kalau kerete luar negara ade air bag sebab kreter dia org keras gile... tak caye rujuk dalam buku FIZIK bab DAYE...

The first Proton GEN-2 small family hatchbacks will arrive in the UK in September. The car, designed and developed in collaboration with Lotus - now owned by the Malaysian company - is the first of a new series of Europe-oriented models from Proton. At first, it will be offered only with a 110bhp, 109lb ft 1.6-litre engine; Proton claims that the GEN-2 will be a sporty drive - as it should be, with Lotus's input - though the performance figures suggest it won't be particularly quick. Acceleration 0-60mph comes up in 12.6 seconds (14.7 seconds in automatic versions) and top speed is 118mph (115mph auto). Fuel consumption is 39.2mpg (34.7mpg auto), and carbon dioxide emissions 169g/km (192g/km auto).

Standard equipment will include driver and passenger airbags, remote central locking, air conditioning, front electric windows, a parking sensor, radio/CD player with steering wheel-mounted controls and body-coloured bumpers (1.6 GL); GLS models add alloy wheels and a 10-CD autochanger, whilst GSX versions have ABS anti-lock brakes, side airbags, rear electric windows, electrically heated/adjustable door mirrors, body-coloured door handles and mirrors, a tailgate spoiler and front foglamps. Prices start from Â£8,995 (1.6 GL) with automatic transmission an Â£800 option; however, you have to spend from Â£10,595 for the GSX to get ABS anti-lock brakes, an essential safety feature. Proton will provide three years'/60,000 miles warranty with a six-year/100,000-mile engine and gearbox guarantee, a six-year/unlimited-mileage bodywork warranty and a three-year/unlimited-mileage paintwork guarantee, plus three years' RAC breakdown cover.

Proton says it "will bring to market an increased range, with two new models planned for launch by mid-2005." It is also planning to "enter into new segments". Expect a product offensive from this revitalised Malaysian manufacturer, with more than a little help from Lotus in Norfolk. Remember too that Proton has a joint development project agreement with MG Rover: the GEN-2 could give more than a few clues to the Birmingham firm's long overdue replacements for the 25/45 range.

The 1.6 litre CAMPRO engine, designed in collaboration with Lotus, delivers exceptional torque output. The double overhead-camshaft engine produces 110bhp.

Power is matched by agility, with handling developed by Lotus. The GEN-2 has outstanding stability when cornering and changing lanes, making it an exciting, responsive drive while maximising passenger comfort.

Sleek, sporty lines continue throughout the interior. The design combines ergonomic comfort with classic minimalism, while exclusive touches from Blaupunkt have brought fingertip controls to life.

Optimal protection is provided by increased body rigidity and strategic crumple zones. Four-wheel ABS on the GSX model ensures stability and good braking performance, whilst the Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) system prevents wheel lock up as the driver makes avoidance manoeuvres whilst braking.

PCUKL will bring to market an increased range, with two new models planned for launch by mid 2005. To further achieve the business vision PCUKL has plans to enter into new segments with a distinct Euro flair that will take the product and brand away from its early 90s proposition, "Japanese technology and Malaysian style".

Proton will support its launch to the UK market via a comprehensive and integrated marketing campaign.
